SHIPPING CONTAINER SCHOOL HOSTEL
The building serves as a dormitory for a high school in Sofia. Twelve 40ft. containers divided into two volumes form the building. They are separated by an open staircase. The short sides and the roof create a structure, uniting both bodies. The authentic look of the containers is preserved and underlined by color accents. Using sea containers to construct buildings is innovative for the country and provides energy-efficiency, cheap construction and flexibility. Containers are also mobile and resilient to weather conditions as well as earthquakes. The building materials and the furniture are a donation.
